There’s lots to explore in Forres and plenty to make a fun day out for all the family. Explore the Tolbooth’s dark prison cells, the old courtroom and climb up to the clocktower for a brilliant bird’s eye view of the town, Findhorn Bay and beyond.
While away an hour or two by visiting some of the independent shops, boutiques, galleries or museums on our High Street, or maybe drop into one of our great cafes, coffee shops, pubs or restaurants for delicious food all day.
Forres is lucky to have lots of lovely walks and the Forres Footpath Trust have developed free route guides with lots of information to help you explore. https://www.forresfootpathstrust.org.uk/ A walk around Cluny Hill is a lovely way to spend an hour or two, whatever the time of year. Circular routes wind around the hill under a beautiful canopy of beech trees. Look out for the red squirrels who call this special woodland home!
Nelson’s Tower, one of Forres’ gems, can be discovered at the top of the hill, https://forresheritage.co.uk/nelsons-tower/, Climb the spiral staircase and enjoy the stunning panorama over Forres, the Moray Firth and beyond. The Tower is usually open every afternoon from the beginning of April until the end of September. Look out for the Red Ensign flag flying from the tower mast to signal it’s open.
Back down into Grant Park for a delicious Ice Cream near the playpark or perhaps a heart warming fresh coffee. At the end of town don’t miss the spectacular Sueno’s Stone https://www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/places/suenos-stone/ , Scotland’s tallest and most complex early medieval sculpture. This gigantic seven metre carved stone is covered with ornate battle scenes and mysterious carvings.
