Previously known as Little Flower, this is the oldest building on High Street. You may be forgiven for missing this tiny little building if it were not for the fact it has been painted bright pink and white. In layout, the heart of Forres is a typical medieval town, with buildings end-on to the High Street and tiny alley ways stretching back into the shadows. Dating from 1668, this pretty building is the oldest in the High Street and a bit of a treasure.

If she were alive today, another one of Forres’ eminent Victorians would appreciate the fact that the oldest surviving building spent many years as a florist’s shop. Born about 1799, Eliza Gordon Cumming was known for her great beauty and many accomplishments, including gardening, painting and salmon fishing, and is remembered particularly for her fossil collecting and collaboration with some of the leading palaeontologists of her day.

Please use the crossing point just a few yards further down the road as the pavement at this point is extremely narrow and extra care should be taken when passing.
