Alexander Grant was born in 1864 and attended Forres Academy before becoming an apprentice to a local baker. He then moved to Edinburgh as assistant to biscuit maker Robert McVitie where he is said to have invented the digestive biscuit.

Alexander prospered, eventually taking over the business in 1911. He became a wealthy peer and a generous philanthropist and bought Forres House and grounds – now called Grant Park – for the town of Forres.

Grant Park is a beautiful natural amphitheatre, an integral part of the town and a source of great pride to the community. Each June, it is the stunning venue for Piping At Forres, the European Pipe Band Championships, bringing more than 120 pipe bands from as far away as Australia and thousands of visitors to the town.

Throughout the year, Grant Park provides a natural backdrop to events, celebrations and festivals attracting hundreds of thousands of people. Due to the hard work of a committed team of volunteers, it is well known for its beautiful floral displays, wonderful water garden and very popular sports and leisure areas. Indeed, it continues to win awards.
